This is the only mouse that I have had for a long time\u00a0and WANT to keep. \u00a0I don&#8217;t want another mouse because it is so good. \u00a0So, it could just be that I use it so much, I&#8217;ve worn the switch out. \u00a0The mouse is also relatively expensive compared to others. \u00a0Most stores sell it for $70CAD but it can \u00a0be found on sale from time-to-time. \u00a0That said, \u00a0I&#8217;m going to show you how to fix that dead switch.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->The fix is reactively simple, but you need good soldering skills as you are working with small components, in a small area and with plastic that melts easily.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>What you need:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"https:\/\/www.banggood.com\/collection-3498.html?utm_campaign=15hdpro&#038;utm_content=east&#038;p=R90804949020201412E4&#038;bid=34984&#038;utm_design=5\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img.banggood.com\/deals\/affiliate_member_banner\/2307ac1cfee5db3a5402aac9db25cc5d61.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>1). Small Phillips screwdriver &#8211; something to work on small electronics.<\/p>\n<p>2) <a title=\"MX Anywhere Micro Switches\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ebay.com\/itm\/291163214073\" target=\"_blank\">Micro Switches<\/a> &#8211; there are many out there, but you need to make sure you get the right ones for this mouse. \u00a0I bought these on Ebay and they came in a pack of 2 (recommended) and they also slipped in a free set of feet for the base. \u00a0Dimensions are 8.6mm (L) \u00a0x 4.8mm (W) \u00a0x 3.1mm (H).<\/p>\n<p>3) A knife \/ thin blade to remove the feet<\/p>\n<p>3) Soldering iron and a steady hand.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Step 1:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Remove the feet. \u00a0There are 4 of them. You may be able to re-use them if you are careful when removing them. \u00a0Use a thin and wide blade \/ knife to get under the foot and slowly pry up. Work your way around it.<\/p>\n<p>Once the feet are removed, remove the 4 screws as shown below.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3599\" src=\"http:\/\/www.plastibots.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/MXAnywhereStep1.jpg\" alt=\"MXAnywhereStep1\" width=\"400\" height=\"558\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.plastibots.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/MXAnywhereStep1.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.plastibots.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/MXAnywhereStep1-215x300.jpg 215w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Step 2:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Pull the top cover off. \u00a0 Carefully pry starting from the back. You may have to get a fingernail in there to jog it loose. \u00a0It should come apart easily.<\/p>\n<p>Locate the bad switch. In my case it was the left mouse click switch &#8211; below right in the yellow box. \u00a0What you see below is the results of my first attempt to replace the original switch with another product. It lasted all of 2 months.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3600 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.plastibots.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/MXAnywhereStep2-e1422546862951.jpg\" alt=\"MXAnywhereStep2\" width=\"344\" height=\"298\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.plastibots.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/MXAnywhereStep2-e1422546862951.jpg 344w, https:\/\/www.plastibots.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/MXAnywhereStep2-e1422546862951-300x260.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 344px) 100vw, 344px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Step 3:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>1) Carefully de-solder the existing switch. \u00a0 Tip. Wedge a fine scredriver or jackknife under the switch while applying the soldering iron to one of the contacts to heat it up. \u00a0Carefully pry up while melting the solder. \u00a0Don&#8217;t worry about getting it completely off yet. \u00a0Just get the switch to bend up a bit. Then move to the other side and do the same. Go back and forth until the switch is removed. \u00a0 After this is done, the solder will likely be sticking up on each of the contacts. Heat it to make it smooth or to make a solder dome out of it. \u00a0This will ready it for installing the new switch.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3602\" src=\"http:\/\/www.plastibots.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/MXAnywhere3.jpg\" alt=\"MXAnywhere3\" width=\"601\" height=\"444\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.plastibots.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/MXAnywhere3.jpg 601w, https:\/\/www.plastibots.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/MXAnywhere3-300x222.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 601px) 100vw, 601px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Step 4:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Notice the white box that outlines the switch location. \u00a0Take the switch and place it in the box. \u00a0Also take notice that the switch clicker needs to be closer to the right. \u00a0Using a pair of pliers or small screw driver, lightly put pressure on one side of the switch and apply the soldering iron to one of the contact points. \u00a0 The solder will melt and the contact will sink into it under the pressure. \u00a0Apply more pressure if necessary. You should only need to apply the soldering iron for 5 seconds or less. \u00a0If you are using lead-free solder, you will want the temp around 700F. \u00a0If it did not work, remove the heat for a bit to let the switch cool and try it again. \u00a0Do the same for the other side. \u00a0While you are doing this, ensure the switch stays in the white box.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3604\" src=\"http:\/\/www.plastibots.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/MXAnywhere41.jpg\" alt=\"MXAnywhere4\" width=\"600\" height=\"414\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.plastibots.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/MXAnywhere41.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.plastibots.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/MXAnywhere41-300x207.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 5:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;re done. \u00a0 Re-assemble the mouse and install the feet. \u00a0Get a beer, chocolate bar or whatever floats your boat and enjoy your rejuvenated mouse.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Logitech MX Anywhere mouse is by far the best mouse I have ever had. \u00a0I currently have 2. \u00a0However, these mice have a common design flaw &#8211; the mouse button that is used most often (left in my case) for clicking dies after a while. \u00a0Maybe design flaw is a bit harsh.
